Create a 3D Floor Plan: Draw Walls and Rooms

This page guides you through the essential steps to design a 2D floor plan, from creating walls to precisely adjusting dimensions. You'll find detailed explanations for drawing, closing a room, editing lengths, and dividing a wall into multiple sections. Whether you're just starting or refining your project, these tools will help you structure your spaces with precision.

1. Drawing Walls

  1. Access the Wall Tool: In the "Drawing Tools" side panel, choose one of the predefined wall types:
    1. Exterior / Bearing Wall: 30 cm thick by default, designed for structural support.
    2. Interior / Partition Wall: 10 cm thick by default, used to divide spaces.
  2. Draw a Wall: Click a starting point in the drawing area, then move the mouse to draw the wall. A dotted blue orthogonality guide will appear automatically to help you align.
  3. Adjust the Length: The wall’s length is displayed in blue in real time. You can then enter an exact value using the keyboard (see below: Adjusting the length of a wall).
  4. Finish the wall: Click at the desired location to complete the wall—either by closing a room, connecting to another wall, or pressing the Esc key to stop drawing.

2. Creating a Room

2.1. Using the Wall Tool

When you close a space with connected walls, the software automatically detects the room. The floor will only appear if all walls and points are properly connected.

The tool detects orthogonality when you move the cursor close to a point where the perpendicular wall should connect.

2.2. Using the Rectangular Room Tool

The Rectangular Room drawing tool is accessible directly from the Drawing Tools menu.

To draw a room, place the cursor at the desired location: a red cross will appear to mark the starting point. Click and hold the left mouse button while dragging to draw the rectangle. Release to confirm the shape, then adjust the room dimensions as explained below.

3. Adjusting Dimensions

3.1. Of a Wall

  1. Select the wall: Click on the wall you want to modify.
  2. Move an endpoint: Click on the wall’s handle to adjust it.
  3. Enter an exact value: Type the desired dimension in the input field.
  4. Confirm: Press Enter to validate the new wall length.

3.2. Of a Room

  1. Select the wall you want to move.
  2. Edit the dimension: An input field appears. Enter the desired dimension, then press Enter to confirm.
  3. Choose the measurement mode: Two types of measurements are available. Select the appropriate icon:
    1. Distance between wall centerlines
    2. Distance from wall to wall

4. Dividing a Wall

There are several ways to divide a wall depending on your needs.

astuce

To quickly split a wall in half, press the Space key. This instantly divides the selected wall into two equal parts without using the menu.

Here are the other wall division options in the properties menu:

  1. Divide the wall manually: Allows you to divide a wall by clicking directly at the desired location.
  2. Divide at regular intervals: You can set a specific distance in centimeters to divide the wall into equal sections. For example, entering 100 cm will divide the wall into segments of that length.
  3. Divide into equal parts: This option allows you to split the wall into a defined number of identical sections. For example, entering 4 will divide the wall into four equal parts. This is useful if you want to apply different materials to each wall section.
  4. Divide at intersections with other walls: This option is useful if you want the wall to be automatically divided where it intersects other walls, avoiding manual adjustments.
